In this issue, we dive into the mind of Kovacs, or Rorschach. Dr. Malcolm thinks he understands this guy. Seriously I think it is the other way around. Rorschach understands Dr. Malcolm.
Best part of this issue was the flashback when Kovacs became Rorschach. He gave that dude a choice. Either he didn’t take the choice or he failed at doing it, I don’t know. What a way to go though. He deserved it though. Bastard.

RAW SHARK DOWN!!! Oh noes! This story is unfolding like a thrown roll of toilet paper over a tree at 2 am. Oh the thrills! I’m picking up chapter 6 as soon as I am done writing this review.
Let me say that I didn’t see that one coming. This are unraveling that I don’t know what part it will play in the future. How will he get out of this situation? What is Jon doing? Who is evil? Who is behind all this? What is going to happen to me when I find out all these answers?
Oh, and I hope that pirate lives. He is badass.

Wow, dude really took it personal and GTFO’d… to Mars. At the same time, I later learned that he saw this coming. WTF. I can’t imagine seeing the past and the future as they are happening in real time. I would like to think if I had all that power, I would try to do good with it. I don’t know if I would let the government be my puppet though. That would make me feel obligated to stay because the moment I leave… the peace I hold leaves.
I would have turned the whole planet Mars into a “deathstar” though. He made himself a pansy Sailor Moon castle.

I guess if my girl broke up with me I’d teleport everyone the hell away and then go to Mars. Totally. A lot of foreshadowing happened in Chapter 3. We got some personality traits of the guy holding that sign that we have seen throughout Chapters 1 & 2. I like the, “End is today - I feel it. Oh, hold that magazine for me tomorrow!”
Maybe the comedian really isn’t dead? HA.
At this point, I’m not sure to feel sorry for the big blue guy or the girl. I’m doubting the cancer allegations, though the damage is already done in the public eye. Who can prove it? Takes years.
Must read more.

Chapter two went over the funeral. I didn’t learn much except the past on a few of the characters introduced. In the past, we learned just how an ASS The Comedian was. While some points, sure were valid in a black and white world… where are the grays?
Of course, I only have a small narrow view of what was going on in those times. I hope to learn more coming up.
On to chapter three!

Got the first chapter finished! I even read the “Under the Hood” excerpt after the comic.
So, the first chapter basically introduces all the characters, from what I can tell. It does an excellent job in setting the scene and atmosphere of the story. Each character’s personality comes out in either Rorschach’s journal or in conversation. Although I’m not fully sure exactly what the Keen’s Act was, I can tell it didn’t allow superheros to “operate” above the law. I did notice the graffiti on the wall that said “Who watches the watchmen?” Curious about that indeed.
A lot of questions have been brought up and not answered but without questions there wouldn’t be a story.
On to chapter two with high hopes!

Garth Franklin over at Dark Horizons, mentions that the film version of “Y: The Last Man” is looking good. The article also explains the plans to make the movie a trilogy and downplay the Beth angle. LaBeouf has expressed interest in the movie. I only hope this does not make this into a comedic adventure, but rather an adventure with some “Yorrik” moments.
I would like the story to main relatively true to the core, however, I would have to agree that the Beth angle was sort of a side story. While it did drive and move Yorrik through-out the story, I can see how even if you completely remove Beth, you would still have Y: The Last Man.
Having just finished the series last week, I would recommend as a good post-apocalyptic read.
Movie is slated for completion in 2010.
