Joey Manley of TalkAboutComics posted today a screenshot of the redesign for Comicspace.com.
As a fellow web designer I must implore that yellow be toned down slightly. I like the pastel pallet, however, there is too much yellow Yellow is bright. If I may, I suggest using the fade in on top and bottom (very well done - kudos) but make the center a white or at least off-white.
Might be a personal opinion, but perhaps a border on the modular boxes would “contain” the boxes more and not have the blend in with the background too much. This might be fixed by changing the background to contrast the boxes more, however, I think a border would be best.
I’m going to assume this is a first draft and it is a good start. Looking forward to the redesign. From experience, I hope it goes smoothly. And please use text for those titles of your boxes! SEO!

I’d have to agree… while the tops and bottoms look pretty spiffy, that much gold and yellow on a page is going to get VERY hard on the eyes. Also the amount of color switches and textures just make the page look extremely busy and will probably cause problems for navigation and clashing with potental content from the multitudes of comics.
Design-wise it looks very cool, but in practical application I just don’t think its going to work out for the best.

I agree with you both. First, the color scheme can use some help. There is an overuse of yellow and orange. The layout needs some work as well, the more important features on this page need more prominence. The publish, buy, read, and talk are dead center in the page when they should be at the top at least. There is also a huge spacing issue with elements on this pages. There is difference spacing all over the place. Some elements are touching, while others don’t, and there isn’t a consistent use of spacing when spacing is present.
Where is the main navigation? I have to scroll down to visit the rest of the pages? It looks like a good idea but it definitely needs to be refined and brought back to the drawing board.
