WAGON Webcomic Battle: Plot Devices

D-20 of Destiny

Plot Device Cards are used to support your own Characters or hinder the actions of your opponent’s Character Cards. Some Plot Devices can give an OFF power boost, others can prevent a card from acting, and some others still can destroy another card altogether. The placement and use of your Plot Device Cards can potentially turn around the most hopeless of situations, and can turn a guaranteed defeat into an upset victory.

BandwidthJust like the Character cards, Plot Devices may have a Bandwidth Cost, indicated at the top of the card next to the PD symbol. In order to play a card you must have the Bandwidth on hand to spend, which you must discard before placing your Character onto the field. At the time of this writing no Plot Device cards have a Bandwidth Cost, but as cards become more powerful that will certainly change.

Instant Plot DeviceIn place of a Character cards’ Genre, Plot Devices have effect count symbols. These symbols essentially tell you how long a Plot Device will stay in game play.

Instant Plot Device Instant PDs have an immediate effect on the game. You simply play them to make something happen, and then discard them.

Counter Plot Device Counter PDs stay on the field for a specified number of rounds. Once that number of round has elapsed, the PD is discarded and its effect ends.

Permanent Plot Device Permanent PDs will stay on the field indefinitely, only to be removed if destroyed by another card or if the conditions on the card itself have been fulfilled.

Equip Plot Device Equipment Plot Devices act a bit differently than the other types do. Like Permanent PDs, these cards don’t have time limits but are attached to one of your cards to be used like a weapon or an upgrade to that particular Character, and don’t take up one of the 5 allowed Plot Device slots on the field. Equipment PDs stay on the field until the card they’re attached to is destroyed or until they themselves are destroyed. Also Unlike the other PD types, Equipment can only be used on your own cards and not on your opponent’s.

machine AtributeMuch like Characters, Plot Devices can also carry Attributes. These Attributes indicate the general properties a card possesses and how they are effected by other cards on the field.

Effect TypeBelow these stats is the really important part: the Effects of the Plot Device, which describes exactly what the PD does. The Effect Type of a Plot Device works much like a Character’s special ability, and most often a card’s effect description will tell you whether or not it will effect certain types of Cards. For example a Fire-type Effect will most likely not work on a Fire-Attributed Character, or an Undead attack won’t work against an Undead Character. On the other hand a Light-Effect may be even more effective against a Dark-Attributed Character. Its all just another reason to pay close attention to how your cards work and know what kind of powers you have in your arsenal.
