Between Places - http://betweenplaces.spiderforest.com

Description

Earth, air, fire, water. The elements, the very foundation of all life. But the extrodinary life forms live beyond these elements, subsiding on the deep magic, so long forgotten it only exists in breaths between places. "The elves," civilians whisper. "The planet killers. They destroy all life." And now they've turned on Mysada, who doesn't plan to give up without a fight. Her soul may have vanished--but so has all magic on on the planet.

Without their magic, will the Maldlahin and their guardians be able to undo the spell? Or will Mysada become another planet forgotten by Time Himself?

Updates Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. A fantasy drama.

On Writing: The story, while initially a little confusing, does straighten itself out after reading it for a bit. It's no fun if you know everything right off the bat, so kudos there.
On Art: Tiana's art style is unique from what I've seen in the webcomics world.
On Website: The website is very straightforward and easy to navigate.
Overall: Overall I really enjoy what I've read thus far and look forward to more

The thing that struck me about Between Places? It reminded me of reading a Vertigo comic back when Vertigo was still more or less interesting. I had to ask if the art was hand painted or done in Photoshop. Its lovely. The story is complex and you have to pay attention to follow. The site could do with a good summary page to help new readers catch up and older readers remember details. All in all, I recommend you add it to your reading list.

The story looks like it's going to be pretty complicated. The art has improved a lot in a relatively short time - so much so that the author went back and re-did some of her earlier pages. Take a look at the "before" and "after" versions if you don't believe me.

An interesting, but flawed comic. I am still unsure what the plot is about, if flickers back and forth between people almost at random and I feel that I need to know more about the universe before I can understand half of what they are talking about. As for the universe I struggled to understand what was happening - perhaps I should have read the 'about' page first, but didn't. The art is good - a little soft and dreamy with well realised placement of people and objects. I prefer a sharper art style, but this works for the story. I have a feeling that by the time this comic is over the art will be omfg gorgeous.
