The witch mom battling the never ending fight with weight, the tech savvy kids, the supportive husband/father, the dogs, and the best friend who happens to be the tooth fairy. I think this comic is easy to relate to on many levels. While it comes from the perspective of a befuddled mom who does her best to glue her family together, I can relate to it as a young adult. For anyone who has ever been a part of a family, you may easily see yourself reflected in this comic somewhere.

The art is simple and while it has improved leaps and bounds over time, it has always been effective in illustrating its point and message.

I wouldn't call Lifes a Witch a laugh out loud gut-buster, by any means. I may laugh and chuckle here and there, but the sincerity always leaves me with a smile, each and every update. It is well worth checking out for yourself

Everyone's life has a little bit of magic in it.

For Witchy, that just happens to be literal magic.

Life's a Witch. And so's the main character of this humorous slice-of-life comic with a slight twist on the whole slice-of-life aspect: the main character's an overweight mom who also happens to be a witch. Something a lot of us can empathize with, be it as the children of such parents or parents ourselves.

Me, I'm a kid, and reading this comic takes me right back to my childhood, with my overweight mom (except she's an elf, dangnabit!) who acts so very much like Zelda it's just like being there all over again.

Now, you have to realize: Life's a Witch is not a jawdroppingly stunning comic. The art is... eh, well, it holds together. It works for a strip. It's possible to recognize the characters from panel to panel well enough, and the consistancy has greatly improved from the first year. Witchy doesn't look skinny, ever. She's recognizable, as are the other cast members. But the art's by no means amazing. It works, but you're not going to be rushing out to put canvas prints of it on your wall.

Nor is it the most hilarious comic you will ever read. I still giggle to myself thinking about Witchy sitting on the washing machine and jiggling. In fact, when I think back, that's really the only joke I remember. It was funny. Most of the time, the comic is not hysterical. It just rings a bit true to life. The characters are just like people I knew when I was a bit younger. They're just like my family, with all their ups and downs and magical infestations in the spare room. THAT'S why it's a good comic, to me. I can assosiate with it. I can empathize with the characters. It might be a bit cliche, but that's because, for me, it echos on my childhood spent joking about my mom being an elf and our adventures in Middle Earth.

Except... Witchy's a witch, and her best friend's a tooth fairy. Nonetheless!

You might think it's a comic for a niche audience, that audience being middle-aged mothers, and you'd be right! It is mainly directed towards older readers, though it's perfectly G-rated. You won't find sex, gore, and violence here. But it's also capable of being just as cute and quirky towards a younger audience. I'm an older teenager, the first time I read it, I was a teenager, and I still loved it then.

Life's a Witch serves to remind us that... life's a witch. And that's why it gets four stars. It's not jawdropping by any aspects. The art could get better, the writing could get better, the site could get better... but it's just enough like real life with a few absurdities thrown in to make life just a little brighter for a little bit.
